Kay Gallery

Kay Gallery and her husband Thomas live in East Syracuse. They have five children attending ESM schools: Gordon, Thomas, Gus, Lucy and Jude.

A resident of the district for nine years, Mrs. Gallery is a former teacher and former mobile therapist who is currently a stay-at-home mom. She has a master’s degree in teaching for secondary social studies and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, both from the University of Pittsburgh.

She has served four years as East Syracuse Elementary PTO co-president. She is a member of the ESM Education Foundation, currently serving as secretary. At Trinity Episcopal Church, she serves on the stewardship committee and teaches Sunday school. She is also on the Village of East Syracuse Recreation Committee.

She enjoys spending time with her family in a meaningful way, educational psychology and research, singing, playing/watching lacrosse, reading, running and swimming. This is her first term on the Board of Education.

Philosophy of Education:

It would be my privilege to advocate for the East Syracuse Minoa learning community as a member of the school board. I feel that my educational background, previous work experience as a teacher and therapist, and parenting experience give me a unique voice and perspective on education.

My philosophy of education is a wholistic one; the whole child should be considered when developing and implementing teaching strategies. I feel passionately that the psychological, emotional, moral, developmental, and cognitive components all need to be addressed for education to be meaningful and sustaining. A wholistic educational approach helps to nurture well rounded students who ultimately become substantive and impactful members of society.

The purpose of education isn’t memorizing math facts, sheet music or carburetor parts. The purpose of education is to instill a desire to learn. It’s up to us as parents, educators, and community members to advocate for education so that the desire to learn is ignited. If we educate and nurture the whole child we can catalyze a life-long desire to learn.
