Our Elementary Objective: Project UpdatesThroughout much of 2019, the district engaged in a collaborative design process to further develop and finalize the design plans for both Fremont and Woodland Elementary schools. These projects have received NY State Education Dept. approval and will now enter the bidding phase, with construction contract awards anticipated this Spring 2020.
Construction at Fremont and Woodland (Phase 1) is projected to begin this summer in 2020. Fremont and Woodland students and staff will relocate for the 2020-21 school year to temporary locations at Lake Street Elementary in Chittenango and St. Matthew’s School in East Syracuse, respectively.
The benefits of relocating to a leased space during construction include improved safety and security, less disruption of the learning environment, the ability to stay together as a learning community, and preparing for a single move instead of multiple moves. It also shortens the construction time, which, in turn, saves project costs.
Both Fremont and Woodland will be complete by the start of the 2021-22 school year, when students and staff will return to state-of-the-art school facilities.
The design process for the East Syracuse Elementary, Minoa Elementary and Park Hill renovations (Phase 2) began in February 2020. Construction at this group of schools is projected to get underway in summer 2021 and be complete by the start of the 2022-23 school year.
