Superintendent's Message

Dear ESM Community:

At ESM our mission is to "prepare students for their futures by engaging all learners in inclusive and equitable student-centered learning communities that nurture intellectual, physical, social and emotional well-being.  We value and embrace diversity within our schools and through partnerships with families and our community."

We value innovative, engaging learning that fosters curiosity in acquiring knowledge and skills that include critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity and innovation. These skills are integrated throughout our curriculum and are essential for children to succeed in college, career and citizenship.

Most important, at all levels of learning we strive for academic excellence and rigor by engaging student minds. Learning is designed with a focus on hands-on, mind-on, problem-solving challenges.

Our vision of becoming "an exemplary exemplary student-centered learning community whose graduates are future focused and ready to excel in a complex, interconnected, changing world" is clearly evident in our actions and priorities. We are proud of our recent state and national recognitions.

In 2015 ESM was recognized as one of the first 27 STEM Learning Ecosystems in the United States to collaboratively and systemically implement STEM learning with families, after-school programs, business and community partners, institutions of higher education and science museums.  ESM was designated on the list of “Best Communities for Music Education,” the past eight years (2014-21), among select districts nationwide.

Parental support is key to a child’s success in learning and in life, so we believe it is essential to develop strong lines of communication between home and school throughout the year. This website, in addition to our Student-Parent Portal, social media (Twitter/Facebook) and other communication tools are valuable resources containing information on how parents can stay connected and informed with their child’s school and his/her individual academic progress.

We invite parents to be actively involved in their child’s education and we extend an invitation to the entire community to join us at school activities and events as often as possible. We value your talent, ideas, involvement, engagement and support for learning. Together, we can help ESM children achieve success!

Sincerely,

Dr. Donna J. DeSiato
