Your PTO organizes this event in which all students have their photos taken for a class picture. You may also choose to purchase one of many portrait packages available. A date is also scheduled for retakes and absentees.
Every attempt is made to ensure all photos will be ready before Christmas, with the possible exception of retakes and absentees.
Profits from school pictures are utilized to support the PTO activities previously mentioned.
BOX TOP$ FOR EDUCATION

Check General Mills food packages for the "Box Top$ for Education" symbol on them. Clip the symbols and send them to school. Volunteer parents can help prepare labels for submission. The symbols are then redeemed for cash, which helps fund PTO activities/events.
WOODLAND YEARBOOK

Yearbooks are sold at cost and are available to students who pre-order within the specified time.
Anyone interested in submitting pictures for possible inclusion in the yearbook may send pictures to the Main Office in an envelope addressed PTO Yearbook. Please identify the individuals (including their grade) on the back of each photo. Pictures are accepted from September through February and cannot be returned.
Yearbooks will be delivered at the end of the school year in June.
FALL FUNDRAISERS
Enjoy the City

This year the PTO will be sponsoring the sale of Enjoy the City discount coupon books. Each student will receive an order form and each family will receive a sample book.
Children and their parents are encouraged to sell to friends, relatives and co-workers—NO door-to-door sales.

SPRING FUNDRAISER
Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough Sale

The PTO will sponsor an Otis Spunkmeyer frozen cookie, brownie and pretzel sale. Each student will receive an ordering packet.
The proceeds from these fundraisers are instrumental in funding the various events/activities scheduled throughout the school year.
DANCE PROGRAM

This is an after-school, instructional dance program offered to boys and girls at Woodland and Park Hill. Various types of dance programs are offered. The program includes 30 weeks of ½-hour lessons, dance costumes, pictures and a dance recital.
ROLLER SKATING NIGHTS

Dates: October 17 & April 3, 2009
Assistants: Parents Needed
This is a fun-filled night for the whole family. Volunteers for this event will help set up, sell tickets and refreshments and clean up. It is a great recreational event for a Friday evening. This event is held in the Woodland gymnasium.
FAMILY BINGO NIGHTS

Dates: October 3, 2008 & February 6, 2009
Held in the Woodland Cafeteria
This is a fun and fortune-filled night for students and their parents. Parent volunteers are needed to set up the room, sell refreshments, assist with prize selections, announce the numbers, confirm "Bingos" and clean up. Every child wins at least one prize.
BURGER KING NIGHT

Held at Thompson Road Burger King
This is a fun night for students and their parents to socialize. At least 3 parent volunteers are needed to 1) greet Woodland families and other customers, 2) clear tables and keep an eye on the trash containers and the floors and 3) clean fingerprints off the glass front doors.
The PTO receives a percentage of the value of all Woodland Elementary-identified food and beverage orders during a specified three-hour time.
BOOK FAIRS

Assistants: Woodland Parents Held at Woodland Elementary School
The PTO organizes this event, with profits going to enhance the library and the Reading Incentive Program. Students select and purchase books from a variety of reading levels. Volunteers are needed to assist the children in making purchases during their class' scheduled "shopping" time.
WINTER WEAR EXCHANGE
Chairpersons: Katie Hager and Kate Walters
Dates: Fall 2008
Woodland parents donate clean, gently used winter wear items (coats, snow pants, hats, boots, mittens, etc.). Parents may then come to the Woodland cafeteria on a select day and pick up items they can use free of charge. Parents do not need to donate an item to select an item. Volunteers are needed to sort items and assist parents with making their selections.
FAMILY HOLIDAY NIGHT

This night is a great way for our families to get into the holiday spirit. Past years' events have featured make and take crafts for the children to take home to keep or give as gifts. Other activities included pictures with Santa, face painting and a holiday snack. Volunteers were needed to set up, assist children with making crafts, serve the snack and clean up. This event is held in the Woodland cafeteria.
READING INCENTIVE PROGRAM
Chairperson: Sandy Raulli

Assistants: 1 Woodland Parent Volunteer
Students will be encouraged to read and record their reading minutes. Students will have the opportunity to participate in weekly prize drawings.
One parent volunteer per grade will be needed to track and post each student's and grade's progress.
LEARNING FAIR
Chairperson: Wendy DuMars
Date: March 7, 2009 - 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Designed to showcase our children's hobbies and interests, this dynamic event encourages the student to publicly speak about and/or demonstrate something they have learned. Projects are developed and completed at home. This allows an opportunity for the child to be independent or to develop a "working together" attitude with other siblings or family members. Projects are put on display in the gym for the community to view. The PTO provides each participating student with a prize to reward them for their efforts.
POETRY ON PARADE

Poetry on Parade is an event where all classes in each grade level perform poetry for their parents during this week. Following their performances, the PTO provides all students with a special treat. A volunteer(s) is needed to purchase the special treat and ensure it is available at the school for this week.
WOODLAND GOES GREEN

Environmentally-themed activities are being planned for this year's event. Volunteers will be needed to assist with planning and executing this event. In April 2007, Woodland students had the opportunity to learn about composting, organic foods and recycling. The students planted flower and herb seeds using composted soil, sampled organic apple slices and fruit smoothies and played recycling games.
STAFF APPRECIATION DAY

On this day, Woodland parents say a very special "thank you" to the entire school staff and faculty by providing them with a special treat. Volunteers are needed to decide the format of this celebration and to handle the details. In past years, the parents have provided an extra special lunch for the staff and faculty.
PLAYGROUND
Playground equipment was updated in 2004. New basketballs were purchased in 2005. Four Square and Hopscotch "boards" were painted in 2006. This is an ongoing effort to provide extra activities for the children and/or replace playground balls/equipment as necessary.
SCHOOL PLAY DAY

Volunteers are needed to develop our end-of-the-year celebration to show our pride for our children's achievements. Activities and programs need to be planned and coordinated for all students for this full day of fun. Many parent volunteers will be needed on June 23rd to help with the planned activities and events.
FIFTH (5TH) GRADE ROLLER SKATING PARTY

This fun-filled afternoon features roller skating for our 5th grade students. The students have an opportunity to socialize and enjoy some refreshments. Fifth (5th) grade parent volunteers are needed to plan, sell tickets, serve refreshments and supervise the students.
FIFTH (5TH) GRADE PROMOTION

5th grade parents are needed to plan this event. Non-5th grade parent volunteers are needed to assist with the morning's events (serving refreshments, distributing corsages, etc.).
All 5th grade students are presented with a gift from the Woodland PTO to celebrate their advancement to 6th grade at Pine Grove Middle School.
