For a seventh grader the door is opening on a new world.  New emotions, new discoveries, a new landscape lies before them.

In Art class I want to teach kids what art is. Not just drawing or painting or playing with clay but a language, an experience, a way for one to discover one's "self". I want to teach kids the vocabulary to see and be able to talk about what they see. I want them to start to understand art, see how it relates to the world's history, cultures and everyday life. To accomplish this we will discuss quotes about art by famous people, artists and other seventh graders. At the end of the 12 weeks each will student write me an art quote as part of their final.

My second goal is to have the kids experience success. We'll do a diverse variety of projects with open-ended guidelines. These projects will give students the freedom to express and discover themselves and instill a feeling of individual accomplishment.
