Character Education
Dear Parents,
I would like to extend a special welcome to our new families who have moved into our school district. I am also pleased to welcome back all families who are returning to Park Hill School for another exciting year.
In the 2005-2006 school year we will again be promoting our character education program at Park Hill School. As defined by Dr. Thomas Lickona, character education is the deliberate effort to develop virtues that are good for the individual and good for society.
Our Character Education program will include monthly emphasis on "Clifford's Big Ideas." Clifford's Big Ideas are positive character traits modeled by the character in "Clifford the Big Red Dog" TV series. These ten ideas represent social and emotional challenges that children face and must master in the course of development; have respect, be responsible, help others, work together, share, be a good friend, play fair, believe in yourself, be truthful and be kind.
Each month our school will focus on one of the big ideas. As a school-wide activity, staff will be discussing the importance of each of these big ideas. Every other month you will receive a flyer that will summarize the themes for the months and a list of activities for home and school.
We all believe that cooperation and communication between home and school will enhance the learning opportunities for all the children at Park Hill School. Please do not hesitate to contact staff members or the office whenever you have questions or would like to provide us with information. On behalf of the entire staff at Park Hill School, we are looking forward to a great year.
Sincerely,
Carol Feldmeier
