Fitness Norms

In 1996, the Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health called to action for all Americans to "get moving." At Fremont, we not only encourage students and their families to "move", we help them to monitor their fitness levels via the President's Challenge Physical Fitness Program.

The test battery is administered twice a year in school (October and May) to look at cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. Students are encouraged to be most concerned with improving their scores relative to previous self-assessments, but many students enjoy comparing themselves to other boys and girls of their same age. While gender and age related norms are posted in the gymnasium, a complete description of the President's test battery and normative results are presented in the charts found at the following link:

  • Presidents Fitness Challenge Qualifying Standards
including Presidential, National and Participant Award Qualifications

A note to parents : Review the charts with your children to support them in their quest to improve their fitness levels. The rewards of doing so will not only bring you closer together in promoting fitness, it will help your children improve their reading skills, technology skills, and math skills relative to interpreting data tables and charts.
