Family Fitness/Walk to School Day
Mr. Smith , Fremont's Physical Education teacher, conducted our National Walk to School Day. Everyone was dropped off from the school buses at the back of the school. Students were given a water bottle and a choice of fruit. Anyone who went on the walk, walked at least one mile ( 4 times around the track ). Students' backpacks were tossed onto the playground rocks. At the end of the walk, the backpacks were picked up before school. The walk started at 7:30 A.M. and ended at 8:05 A.M. It was a lot of fun for parents, students and teachers. All grades from 1-6 were involved in the walk and their family members were too. News Channel 5 and 9 were arrived and covered the story with approximately over 400 participants. This National Walk to School Day was sponsored by the Onondoga County Health Department. "Our goal this year was to promote fitness throughout the community." says Mr. Smith. Students, staff, faculty, the PTO, the Onondoga Health Department, and the Manlius Police Department cooperated to make this event happen.
