Kahurangi

New Zealand is an island off the southeastern coast of Australia.
Kahurangi, the New Zealand Maori Troupe that performs in Drama, Song, and Dance
Every year about 40 young Maori men and women go to about 15 hundred schools inspiring cultural development. Their mission statement is below:
- To encourage an appreciation of Maori song, dance, heritage and language for people of all ages.
- To preserve ancient Maori chants and dances as well as promote the development o contemporary styles in the performing arts .
- To create cultural, education, social and employment opportunities in the performing arts for young Maori people.
- Kahurangi is a culture, educational and employment program. This program was made to encourage cultural understanding for people of all ages.
- The shaking of the hands is called "wiri" which represents the tremble of life in our hearts.
- The foot beat of the dancer keeps the time and represents the heartbeat of Mother Earth.
